Black Out
2002, 40 minutes
Current Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Black Out is Judah mastermind Satva Leungís stab at a montage-style video. It plays out similar to a video magazine, with sections organized by location and a few commercials scattered in between. Background beats are provided by several DJ types, including Satva. Since Black Out was produced by Satva and friends, expect to see an abundance of San Francisco spots and skaters mixed with some Tokyo, London and New York footage.

Black Out represents a wide enough variety of skaters and styles to prevent it from getting stale. Pros and relative unknowns are given equal attention, and if not for the subtitles providing names, at times it would be hard to tell the difference between the two. There are enough random creative tricks scattered throughout the top-notch technical skating to keep your attention. However, youíre going to want to turn the video off when it tells you to contact Imperial, because after that itís just a few minutes of Jackass rip-off pranks, which are dumb enough to demote Black Out from a 3.5 to a 3.

I read a review of Black Out on another website that stated the following: "the quality of this video is like the quality of Satva's teeth. Which is terrible..." Well, I couldn't agree more. It's just a bunch of throwaway footage crammed in to one video with no rhyme or reason. If youíre into the montage video format, try an E.S.T. video. Avoid this one like the plague.
