The Trip
2001, 48 minutes
Current Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

The Trip features the Arcade Team as they traveled to the four corners of America in an RV filled with tequila, packs of ramen noodles, boxes of condoms, a bunch of white guys, and two black guys. Much of the video is spent watching the month long hjinx of the team on the road, in hotels, and in various cities. Much of the skating is what to be expected of a tour video, an enormous amount of park footage with 10 year olds begging for autographs and free Arcade product in the background. The little skate footage inside makes up about 13 minutes of this 48-minute video.

Slanty Slits April 11, 2003

Going out on the open road with friends is the greatest trip anyone can ever have. Unfortunately, no video will ever do justice for how good the road trip was in reality. I'm sure that the folks from Arcade had the greatest times of their lives but unless you were in the RV with them or knew the team personally, watching this video licks ass. Tour videos can get pretty old. There are always tons of crappy demo footage followed by pranks on sleeping homies, lots of dudes failing to get laid, and plenty of boozin' and pukin', blah, blah! Haven't we seen this shit in skateboarding videos before? The Trip is probably a dream for kids discovering zits on their face for the first time but a bore for folks getting their first wrinkles.

I’m not sure who makes the target market for tour videos, but it only makes sense that the team involved and anyone who attended one of the demos would get the biggest kicks. Other than that, I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t just wait for the company to release their next non-tour video. The Trip kind of plays like an episode of The Real World, except with a lower production budget. I never got into the whole reality television thing, so needless to say this video isn’t really high up on my list. There’s a whole lot of footage of the team hanging out, partying, drinking, goofing off, and even some “Girls Gone Wild” moments, but not much skating. And when you do see skating, it’s good, but it’s a lot of the same tricks repeated over and over at different skateparks. Due to its length and general lack of skating, The Trip doesn’t really lend itself to repeated viewings.
