Goin' Off
T.R. Productions
1989, 55 minutes
Current Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Goin' Off contains one-direction boards, lots of slow motion editing and Jaya Bonderov daydreaming about skateboarding while in school. He fulfills the dream and eventually harasses the town of Santa Cruz. A vert demo with Lucero, Grosso and more follows Bonderov's section, and is backed by a segment of homemade mini ramps and monstrous vert ramps. Later on there is another street session, this time with Natas. Expect wall rides, grinds, and trickery from the late 80's.

Lace up (as tight as possible) those red and black Nike basketball shoes because it's time to get "rad!" That's the effect Goin' Off wanted you to have after viewing it (in 1989). No gimmicks or egos aside from the embarrassingly silly sound effects added by the editing crew. One part that bugged me about the editing was the overuse of slow motion. The video time could have been reduced by a quarter if slow-mo wasn't thrown around so liberally. Otherwise, I gayed off to the one-direction decks at Raging Waters and mini ramp sessions. Couldnt B. Happier October 29, 2002

Maybe this video left a mark on people who were skating when I was born, but I found it a bit tedious. I did enjoy seeing Tommy Guerrero skate, but 900 slow-mo shots of a 50-50 down a curb is a bit excessive for my impatient lanky ass. Other lowlights are Natas’ few tricks and a load of vert skating. If you're looking for skateboarding’s roots, this video shows the transition from vert to street skating, but along that path you may experience sudden narcolepsy.
