Current Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Joy and Pain is brought to you by the Midwestern skateboard representatives, Fobia. The opener is a fast montage which leads into the main parts. Each featured skater gets a small visual intro section with skating or slams before their part begins. There’s a montage section halfway through featuring Fobiarmy soldiers like Ryan Hansen and Simon Cheng and a Mexico section in the last half of the video which showcases some of the demos and local rippers. After the credits roll comes a bonus montage of various Fobia riders. The skating is mainly street with huge drops, gaps, rails, and stairs, and the music varies from Slayer and Metallica to Company Flow and Snoop Dog.

Joy and Pain is an average video with some moments of greatness. The featured skaters all have some bangers in their parts, but most of the footage is mediocre. Seth McCallum regulates while ollieing big drops and slicing rails like Ginsu knives through paper. Up-and-comer Emeric Pratt has a solid part with some of the best bangers in the vid including a 360 flip lipslide on an 8 stair ledge. Clint Peterson has one of the most visually pleasing styles, as he flows through tech runs and big drops. Steve Nesser rightfully gets the last part with his clean and fast skating combined with big guns such as his kickflip over a rail down a gigantic drop. Unfortunately, the Fobiarmy montage is mediocre when compared to the featured skaters, and some of the riders are horribly sloppy and the Mexico section is OK, with some local footage, but it drags at times.
