Current Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Released in 1994, Live was the first video offering from Toy Machine at a time when Brad Dorfman backed the company. Typically low-budget filming and line-orientated sections are offered up by some the most prominent up-and-comers of the time period.

Before the art shows and the turtle boys there was simply Toy Machine, just another company run by an early 90's skate hero. In fact, there was an old interview with Templeton in which he described his decisions in selecting team members. Basically, he professed to picking some not-so-hot guys for the team for their personality rather than their skating. That fact is evident in Live. Half the team consists of generic skaters with poor styles and a limited bag of tricks. Jahmal Williams and Jerry Fowler, however, did manage to set themselves apart. The Boston based duo exhibit flawless execution of every possible flip trick and manual combination imaginable. Of course, Templeton is no slouch. His skating during this time period is almost the polar-opposite of what he's currently doing. Here’s the verdict: Toy Machine's Live is no Welcome to Hell, but who cares? At least check it out for the historical value.
